Gaslamp Quarter Historic District

Established in 1850, San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is a beautiful neighborhood of historic buildings from a classic period of architecture and aesthetics. Today, it's a thriving locale with shopping, dining, and entertainment for all. Special events happen in the Gaslamp Quarter throughout the year-sometimes it seems like there's always a festival going on here. It's also close to downtown San Diego destinations like Horton Plaza, Petco Park, and the Convention Center. Check out our complete guide to Gaslamp!

Before You Go

PETCO PARK

Right next to the Gaslamp Quarter is the home of the Major League Baseball San Diego Padres. Every seat is a good one in Petco Park, with views of the Pacific Ocean, the mountains, and of course the playing field. There are lots of scrumptious food and snack choices beyond the classic peanuts, hot dogs, and beer. Get a chicken Caesar salad and Italian sandwiches at Brickhouse Deli or indulge in some delicious tacos at Lolita's. Parking around Petco Park can cost between $10 and $20, depending on the games scheduled.

SAN DIEGO CONVENTION CENTER

With its warm weather year-round and fun attractions, it's no surprise that San Diego is a popular destination for conventions-like the world-famous Comic-Con. The San Diego Convention Center, steps away from the Gaslamp Quarter, boasts a stellar downtown location and mega square footage. Its Exhibit Hall is over 500,000 square feet alone!

Art galleries like Tim Cantor represent some of the wonderful artistic talents of the area and feature one-of-a-kind finds. Get pampering treatment at Float Spa or find a treat for little ones at the zany candy store IT'SUGAR. Horton Plaza is at Broadway and G streets.

WHAT ARE SOME POPULAR RESTAURANTS AND BARS?

There's always time for a cold one in the Gaslamp Quarter. The Tipsy Crow has great Game Day Specials on beer, liquor, and appetizers and an awesome look at historic downtown buildings. Prohibition Lounge puts the swank in swanky with its upscale loungey vibe-perfect for a cocktail, beer, or glass of wine. As for restaurants, let's begin with dessert-Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop serves up sinfully decadent sundaes and floats-diets be banished! Head to Cowboy Star for a juicy steak, or, if you're in the mood for ‘za, Gaslamp Pizza is the place to go, they are even open until 3am!
